The white king doesn't really participate much in the attack. 1. b6 and not Kc8 2. b7+ Kb8 3. d7 Kc7 4. d8=Q+ Kxd8 5. b8=Q. If instead 1. ... Ra5+ then the king flees and he plays b7 (followed by c7) at his convenience.

5W0055 Crafty (comptuer) vs. Grand Master Heine in a 3 minute game at the Internet Chess Club. 1. Qf7! Black resigns. i.e. 1. ... Kb8 2. Bxa7+ Ka8 3. Bc5+ Kb8 4. Rb1+ forces mate. The threat is 5. Qb7 mate. Black can give up two pieces to delay it, but it hardly matters. If 1. ... a5 2. Rxa5! wins	_____	5W0056 the position is complicated. White can win the exchange by taking on e7 but there is better. he would like to play Qh4 threatening mate but the response of f6 threatenes Rh7. It appears that the best is 1. Nxd8! Qxd8? 2. Qh4 f6 3. Bxh6 Rh7 4. Bxd8 Rxh4+ 5. Bxh4 Other variations are possible.
