Recently I had this position - in a tournament as black. I am
- trying to queen my pawn but checks
- from the white rook are keeping me
- from doing that. Ideally Black is
- suppose to to place his rook on the
- 4th rank so that he can try to reach
- a position like the following .....

- ... where his own rook can stop the
- checks....
[Next]
- ... but it isn't so easy for me
- because the white king kept
- threatening the rook.
- I am not set up very well here to get
- the ideal position.

- So here is a strategy that works
- easily.
[Next]
- White threatens to win the pawn.
[Next]
- Black says "go away please."
[Next]
- Not much choice.
[Next]
- I want to queen a pawn now.
[Next]
- Moving a little closer to stop the
- pawn.
[Next]
- Rg2!! and that pawn is now going to
- queen!
- Black threatens to move the pawn with
- check.
